Manager of Age Concern Horowhenua

It's taken a long hard year of letting go of what I did and who I was seen as and it's all come to fruition with me starting a new role as Manager of Age Concern (Horowhenua) based in Levin (pop in).

I know, that's a change eh ... but is it really, it's all about people, connections, and getting things done.

I don't start until the new year and have, thank golly, a few weeks with the awesome Natalie before she heads away to a new life in Australia. That should give us plenty of time to embed me in, for the team to learn my quirks and what makes me laugh out loud, and most importantly to meet as many of the members as I can, the community, and all the supporting organisations.

For those that wanna know what I'm actually gonna be doing I think this from my website sums it up.

Direction

My role is to ensure that Age Concern Horowhenua ship is both sailing in the direction the Board has set strategically in a long term sustainable way.

I am guided in this by our mission of promoting the wellbeing, rights, respect and dignity for older people.

Connection

With the support of the community, fellow organisations, and funding providers it is my role to grow and evolve our on-going connections in order to provide:
  • Elder Abuse Response,
  • Health Promotion,
  • Social Connection.

Leadership

He tangata he tangata, he tangata!

Our small, dedicated, and extremely talented team all know what they're doing with my role being:
  1. Keep out of the way
  2. Remove hurdles that stop them being awesome
(oh, and to muck in when asked ... we're all in the waka together)

----

So, here's to the end of a fucking tough 2024 and on to something I have been yearning for for quite some time, a change in everything but still using my experiences and skills for the betterment of as many people as possible.

Bring on the old people!
(yes, yes, I am one, I know :)
